Done as a passion project during the Circuit Breaker Period in Singapore, I transformed a favourite food of mine - the onigiri, into a character and based my design around it.
About Me
Hi there! I'm Eliza.
As a filmmaker, I see the world around me as a deep and wide sea of inspiration.
Amidst my day, I take away bits of what I see, read and hear as a springboard for new ideas or to launch me into a character’s mind or world. With many ideas floating around my head, I'm always looking forward to my next opportunity to turn my urgently typed, typo-filled ideas in my notes app, into moving pictures with a story that can be seen, heard and felt by audiences.
The work I create often focuses on relatable stories or issues of the everyday person, with a mix of quirkiness, fantasy and magical realism elements, to convey themes and make otherwise intangible feelings, tangible. That is, after all, the magic of cinema.
I take quite a bit of my inspiration from Korean cinema. Some of my favourites include indie films such as Aloners by Hong Sung Eun and Maggie by Yi Ok Seop.
My love for Korean cinema is also one of the contributing factors that has led me to learn the Korean language, and while I am still working towards taking the official language certification, I'd like to pride myself at being pretty good at the language's standard pronunciation
or '발음'.
During my free time, I enjoy reading or taking walks while exploring new places and faces with a film camera in hand. The unpredictability of each shot and the grain and colours that are produced each time, is nothing short of exciting and fulfilling.
